Diplomatic conflict between Ukraine and Hungary intensifies

The Hungarian embassy in Kyiv reacted to the accusations of Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Irina Vereshchuk. Vereshchuk had previously said that the Hungarian government did not support sanctions against Russia. The Ukrainian deputy prime minister assumes that Russia promised that Hungary would get Transcarpathia back after the war. The embassy said these were baseless accusations.

Ukrainian criticism of Hungary

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk has sharply criticised Hungary on her Facebook page. Her problem is that Hungary does not support many measures attacking Russia, writes 24.hu.

Thus, Hungary does not take an open position against Russia.

“They do not support sanctions. Not only do they not hand over weapons, they also do not allow arms shipments from other countries to pass through their territory. In fact, they say no to everything. Slowly, the official rhetoric of Budapest will be openly pro-Russian,” Vereshchuk writes. Finally, the Deputy Prime Minister closes her post as follows:

“Or maybe you want our Transcarpathia? What do they want? Cheap Russian gas? Or maybe our Transcarpathia?”

The Embassy of Hungary in Kyiv reacted

Vereshchuk addressed the post to the Hungarian leadership. It is important to emphasise that she did not criticise Hungary. This was more widely reported in the Russian press than in Hungary. However, more and more people are writing about the case in Hungary, especially after the response of the Hungarian embassy in Kyiv, writes index.hu.

According to the Hungarian Embassy in Kyiv, her statement aimed at the Prime Minister is an unfounded and downright offensive assumption.

The embassy also reacted on their social media site. “The Deputy Prime Minister sums up what Hungary and its government are not doing for Ukraine in the current situation. Its conclusions are not only completely false and unfounded but downright offensive. Unfortunately, these accusations have long been successfully planted. It is particularly sad that these speculations include, not for the first time, Transcarpathia and the Hungarians living there,” reads their social media site.

They believe that the Hungarian state is doing a lot for Ukraine.

They listed, for example, how many refugees Hungary would receive, how it will provide Ukraine with energy supplies, and provide Ukraine with financial and material assistance.

  1. Zelensky has the gull to criticize Hungary, while oppressing and persecuting the Hungarian minority in the Ukraine. Zelensky did not need to engage in a war with Russia. If Zelensky was half as smart as an eight grader, he would have never started to voice his intentions of joining NATO. This idea was supported by President Biden. Biden said that as a democratic country, the Ukraine has every right to join. Zelensky believed this and the result is a war that is destroying the country. Now Ukraine is fighting a proxi war.

No one should be commended for waging a war. That is wrong. However, Russia’s ensuring the safety of its country, by keeping the opposition as far away is possible, is understandable (same as Cuban missile crises). Now it is too late to stop the war without ceding territory to Russia.

Zelensky’s insistence that Hungary stop using Russian oil is insane. Why would a Hungarian government compel its citizens to freeze? This is a non starter. No weapons should be transported through Hungary that could be used against the Hungarian minority. Hungary must stay neutral.

Hungary is already helping Ukraine by housing and caring for half a million plus refugees. Considering that The Ukrainian government, headed by Zelensky, was always hostile towards Hungary, Zelensky has no right to ask anything of the country or its people.

  2. Knew mariavontheresa would have commented on this article.

OrbĂ¡n wants cheap gas so he can win the election, nothing more. He fawns over Putin, a dangerous game to play for his own self gratification. Interesting dynamics in Brussels, even Poland and Slovakia aren’t really wanting to be associated with OrbĂ¡n. Still, as mariavontheresa points out, Russia’s only ensuring the safety of its country!

Stop harping on about Biden, Ukrainians wanted to join NATO before Biden became president. Take a leaf out of your own book and do your research.

  3. Zelensky pointing out the tragedy of the Jews along the Danube yet ignores the Ukraines nazi co-operation killing Polish and Polish Jews to eradicate the Polish population in Western Ukraine.
Zelensky also fails to recognize the hypocrisy of Ukraine accepting the stolen lands of Hungary, Trans-Carpathia, from Stalin who a decade earlier had slaughtered millions of Ukrainians.
More history swept under the carpet by Zelensky and his ultra nationalists.

  4. Ukrainians are showing their real face to the world. They have deliriums of superiority and behave way too much aggressively. They look like a drug addict in rehab.

  5. Ukraine needs to reflect on how Transcarpathia became “their Transcarpathia.” They may learn to understand why Hungary is not ready to support their fight?

  6. It’s amazing, Irina Vereshchuk made it to deputy prime minister. But then one shouldn’t be surprised, Zelenskyy, a comic, a dancer on Ukraine Got Talent, is her prime minister, who without second thoughts, is ready to plunge the whole world into World War III.
Perhaps it would have been advisable to sign the Minsk agreements…None of what is happening would be, a horrendous tragedy he helped bring about.

  7. When in 1919 France dis-membered Hungary, Trans-Carpathia was given to Czechoslovakia. The Soviets came and wanted that part, so they could have excess to Hungary. Those people have suffered tremendously under the Soviets, and the Ukrainians. Who wants to help the torturers?

  8. Does Israel gives weapons to Ukraine? No. Despite the fact that Zelensky is Jewish. He is attacking Hungary because its a fashionable in Brussel.

  9. I say everyone should cool it! Everyone should get back to their cage and remember, there is so much history behind this situation of who did what to whom in the past, that it gets very complicated when you try to unravel the truth. There are too many layers to consider to try to find out who is at fault.
Let the two leaders challenge each other, get into a ring and fight it out. See if he could act like a pancratist in the ring for his country. We could save a lot of lives, money & a lot of time with that. Zelenski is NOT FIT to be a Primeminister, he & TRUDEAU should have stuck to what they both know. Acting!
